Added to my collection: M.O.D.O.K & Team-Up #97
I've acquired a couple of cheap comics this week. This first one is a One-shot from 2009 set during the Dark Reign. I ws actually buying singles at the point but it seems so long ago. This $3.99 (i.e £3.20 when new) issue was snapped-up from ebay for 99p.
M.O.D.O.K. Reign Delay is actually really funny. It's written and drawn by Ryan Dunlavey who seems to do this sort of thing a bit. It's interesting for me to see this sort of comic as it helps me develop my style for the ACES. I've actually read this already!
Marvel Team-Up #97 completes a little run of issues which means I now only need issue numbers 8 and 23 to have 1-100. This is unusual as it stars The Hulk rather than Spidey...but I guess having Spider-woman as the other guest star sort of compensates.
This was a real bargain as I got it for 50p. I missed out on a previous auction only at the beginning of the month when the item went for £2.80. Just goes to show that there's no need to panic!

Marvel Masterworks: Iron Man Vol 5
My current obsession is to complete the Iron Man Masterworks. Volume 5 reprints issues 2-13
With the addition of Volume 5 yesterday I'm starting to get to the era when I've a few, but only a few, of the original issues. In this particular case just number 13.
However, I'm struggling to find Volume 6 for a reasonable price. The best I can see so far is £50 which is quite a lot.
Iron Man Masterworks currently run to volume 8 and issue 53. Volumes 7 and 8 are widely available but for some reason Volume 6 which was only published in 2009 seems very scarce.
I am considering selling original issues to fund further purchases or should I just get the originals to complete my collection. I really haven't decided yet.

Rivers of London
Last weekend (after posting my last blog entry) I finished this novel which the first in a series about a policeman who is an apprentice wizard and investigates magical crimes in London.
Although on occasion is was a little difficult to follow, what made this a worthwhile read was the characters and humour.
It was also fun to see places that I knew mentioned. Forbidden Planet got a name check!

Added to My collection: Great Lakes Avengers
Picked up all 4 issues of this mini mega cheap from ebay (£2.20). The trade is out of print and hence copies are rare and expensive so I was ecstatic to pick this up for such a price!

More swag from London
I confess to buying the majority of my stuff via the internet. It's just so much cheaper that it's stupid not too but if items are a similar price or hard-to-get or better in a sale then I am more than happy to support comics shops.
I made my third visit to Forbidden Planet London this year and came away with these two Batman: The Brave and the Bold trades which are hard to find on Amazon etc. So that was a result. Although an all-ages comic -who cares? The reviews were always awesome on this!
I also picked up the brand new Rocketeer Treasury Edition by various writers/artists including Darwyn Cooke. It's big and looks nice and being only a £5 looks good value. More Rocketeer to read- yay!
I was disappointed not to pick-up Star Wars Vol 5 in the sale. Sniff. It was there last time. Lots of Vol 4 but I guess you win some and lose some.

Morning Glories Vol 4
Good grief! Was it really September that I was reading Morning Glories vols 1-3. It seems it was!
Well approx 9 months later I've just got volume 4 - and I might add it's only just been published!
As I said back in Sept...will I remember what's happened?

Not such a long time ago....
It was only last month when I picked up volume 4 of these Dark Horse reprint volumes of the old Marvel Star Wars series from Forbidden Planet in London. But at the time I was missing Vol 2. But no longer! I picked this second hand one up for £8 off Ebay and with a local pick-up it is still much better value than the £22 Amazon are charging for it.
I hope that FP still have volume 5 in their sale when I go again on Tuesday.
These books are crazy alternative storylines set in the SW universe before the original Trilogy was completed. I bought some in the British Star Wars Weekly back in the 70s but never had many so I am keen to compete the run of 7 reprint volumes...if I can get them at the right price.

Finally...some back issues added to my collection!
But nothing that exciting in this lot of 99p bargains.
The Marvel Tales reprinting Spidey's first ever appearance looks nice but is only FN at best - still it matches my other early Spidey reprints and that's why I got it.
Marvel Team-Up #92 gets me one step closer to completing the 1-100 run on that title.
And I always thought Paladin was cool- will I still think that after reading this issue of Marvel Premiere where the (then) Daredevil nemises strikes out in his own comic?
